MPA sport and youth cluster Engelen
On the initiative of, and in close consultation with, the village of Engelen, Algeco realised a remarkably designed multifunctional building that houses the local Jenaplanschool, the out-of-school care, the childcare centre, the sports canteen and the youth centre. In this way, learning, playing and sports are brought together in an accessible manner. The idea behind this is that children will naturally exercise and play more during and after school. An additional advantage is that the available spaces of the sports field and the facilities are used more intensively. Other facilities in and around the building can also be used mutually by the participating organisations.

Striking building, striking layout
The building has two floors with changing rooms in the basement. The facilities are connected by a broad, meandering 'inner street'.
The front section has a split-level construction, with the changing rooms in the basement. Above that are the sports canteen and the youth room, on a half-raised terrace with stands facing two directions. Behind the head is the main entrance, and behind it on the ground floor are the out-of-school care and the KDV as well as various central areas. The 9 classrooms of the school are all clustered on the first floor, in combination with various secondary areas. These classrooms can also be reached from outside by means of the wide staircase in the tail of the building, which also functions as a grandstand for the outdoor theatre and the football field behind it. There is also a half-covered outdoor classroom on the first floor.
All parts are connected by a broad meandering 'inner street'. Large voids with skylights above them offer diagonal views and plenty of daylight.
